Skiing in New Jersey: Why Owning a Condo is Better than Renting

nj skiing why owning a condo is better than rentingLove to ski or snowboard, but hate those long drives to the slopes? What if you had access to 41 trails located on four peaks, and the industry's most advanced snowmaking (with more snow making capacity than any other ski resort in the PA, NJ, NY and CT region) less than an hour away from New York City? Welcome to Mountain Creek, New York Metro area’s closest and best-known winter resort!

Of course, after an exhilarating day on the slopes, who wants to drive home?  You could rent a condo and spend the night. Then, of course, if you decide to come back for more winter fun (and once you experience Mountain Creek, you’ll want to come back!) you’ll need to do it again.

What if you had a place of your own close to the foot of the mountain? There are great opportunities to make that dream a reality at Crystal Springs. Awe-inspiring mountain views and easy access to skiing, snowboarding, and tubing can be yours for less than you might think.

What really makes owning a condo in Crystal Springs great is that it’s not just a place to spend a night or two during ski season. Crystal Springs is an all-out, year-round resort community. Even when ski season is over, you can take advantage of a wide variety of outdoor activities (like swimming, hiking, fishing, and golf). And there are great indoor and outdoor restaurants, bistros, pubs, and cafes, including 4-star dining at the award-winning Restaurant Latour.

Crystal Springs is so close (just 46 miles from the George Washington Bridge!) that you’ll want to use it as an impromptu get-away when things get a little too hectic in the City, or in the suburbs. And even though it’s close, it feels like it could be a million miles away.

Getting away for a day or two of skiing is nice. But wouldn’t it be great to own your own little slice of paradise that you could slip away to—anytime you want?

Considering Golf Resort Communities in NJ? What To Look For

considering golf communities in nj what to look forThe rest of the country may not know it, but New Jersey is home to some of the most spectacular golf facilities in the country. Hey, we won’t tell, if you don’t! If you live near Newark, Jersey City, or even in the New York metro area, you’re less than 50 miles away from some of the best golf the Northeast has to offer.

If you’re an avid golfer, you may have dreamed about living in a golf resort community with luscious links right in your back yard. But what should you look for in a golf resort community? Your spouse or significant other may remind you that there’s more to life than just golf.

Chances are that if you’re a golfer, you enjoy being outside for a number of reasons. If you’re looking for a place to call home, you’ll want to consider a community that offers a variety of outdoor activities, such as hiking, fishing, and swimming. And if you’re planning to stay in the Northeast, you’ll want to be able to take advantage of activities outside of golf season—such as skiing.

Great resort communities are comprised of more than outdoor activities. You’ll want access to shopping, fine dining, and social or cultural events. And you’ll want to be around people who share the same appreciation of quality and value that you have.

That’s one thing that makes Crystal Springs so special. It's a community of people who have made a conscious decision about the quality of life they want to have--and that includes the place they choose to call home. Residents place a high value on quality and that’s reflected in the craftsmanship of the homes they buy and in the location they chose—a place whose value includes a rich array of scenery and things to do.

Oh yes, there’s golf, too! Crystal Springs boasts seven spectacular golf courses—making it the Northeast's premier golf resort community and the home of the #1 golf instructor in the world with The David Leadbetter Golf Academy.

If you’re considering golf communities in New Jersey, we invite you to take a closer look at the best resort real estate in the region. You may come for the golf, but you’ll stay for the quality of life.

What Kind of Person Lives in a New Jersey Resort Community?

what kind of person lives in a new jersey resort communityOne of the most important things to think about when considering a new home is what the community will be like. Community, of course, is much more than the physical boundaries of a village or town. People define a community.

So what kind of person lives in a New Jersey resort community? Naturally, there’s a lot of diversity in the answer to that question. Still, there are certain common characteristics of the people who choose to live in a resort community. They all seem to share a passion for quality. They value the quality of construction in the home that they live in and they also place a high value on their quality of life. And they want to be around others who share that passion for quality.

We’d like to introduce you to a few of our community residents and give you a quick glance at what was important to them in choosing a resort community in New Jersey. Maybe you’ll recognize yourself in their stories.

The Lowchers have lived in The Village at Crystal Springs for two years after deciding to sell their Warren County home. They were hoping their family (including their two daughters) could spend more quality time together in this new four-season residential resort by taking advantage of the many first-rate amenities that Crystal Springs offers. They're now all playing golf together, along with enjoying the world-class facilities at both Crystal Springs Country Club and Minerals Sports Club. Skiing and snow boarding have become ideal winter pastimes, with the slopes of Mountain Creek just minutes down the road. The girls also find time to participate in Girl Scouts and many sports in town. They say they couldn’t be more pleased with their move.

The Poltersdorfs have owned a home in the Angel Fire section of Crystal Springs for three years. Todd grew up in nearby Vernon and always wanted to reside in the scenic, countrified area where he lived as a child. His wife, Nicki had lived in eight different locations across the country and wanted a family-minded community she could finally call home where the kids could ride bikes and not have to go far to meet friends. They love the neighborhood aspect of Crystal Springs.

The Paddocks made a local move from Hardyston, NJ because they wanted to remain in the rolling hills of Sussex County. The Village at Crystal Springs was a clear choice for them. Doug and Diane loved the neighborhood and saw it as “a perfect place for hiking”—an activity they take advantage of often. The astronomy enthusiasts love the dark skies that are ideally suited for stargazing. But it was the uniqueness of Crystal Springs, with its wide array of activities, great neighbors and efficient homes that sold them on the community.

The Smiths moved from Wayne, New Jersey to their Augusta model single-family home in August 2001—primarily to be closer to two of their five married children, and to their grandchildren. When visiting one of their daughters at Great Gorge three years ago, they fell in love with the surrounding area in general, and with Crystal Springs in particular. They always had it in the back of their minds to move to Sussex County, and to Crystal Springs specifically. The Smiths' goal was to downsize when they moved, but they ended up with a much larger home because the house was so spectacular, and their money went much further here than in the metropolitan area.

Have a look at what brought others to this year-round resort community less than an hour from New York City. We think you’ll see plenty of reasons to call Crystal Springs home!

Green Resort Living in New Jersey

green resort livingFor some people “resort living” and “environmental responsibility” may seem like odd bedfellows. After all, thinking about a resort conjures up images of luxury and pampering. On the other hand, thinking about acting in an environmentally responsible way generally generates thoughts of things we have to do without.

Things have changed a lot since the early days of green building. When energy-efficient devices and building materials were first introduced, some of them weren’t all that great. They may have saved some energy, but they didn’t perform very well. And homeowners had to pay a premium price to “go green.” As concern for the environment has grown, demand for quality “green” products and environmentally friendly materials has grown as well. And as quality has increased, prices have dropped. As a result, “green resort living” is no longer an oxymoron. It’s a reality.

There’s more to “being green” however, than simply installing a few energy-efficient devices in the homes we build. That’s why Crystal Springs Builders has teamed up with US-based Sustainable Travel International (STI) to become the first resort development company to address global warming and offset its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions through MyClimate™, an innovative program that neutralizes the impact of GHG emissions. We’ve identified greenhouse gas emissions stemming from basic electricity consumption, and we seek to remedy their impact on global warming.

We’ve taken additional environmental initiatives as well, including:

  • Having our Ballyowen Golf Club designated as a “Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary” by the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary System (ACSS)
  • Creating a partnership with the National Biodiversity Parks Land Trust to preserve a 1300+ acre green belt surrounding the development
  • Investing a $70,000 federal grant to improve wildlife habitat on three of our golf courses: Ballyowen, Black Bear and Crystal Springs
  • Forming an alliance with the New Jersey Non-Game Program to help restore the federally endangered bog turtle habitat within Crystal Springs
  • Enlisted the services of Go Native’s Dennis Miranda, a naturalist with 20+ years experience in the Highlands, and founder of the Crystal Springs Nature Club
  • Starting recycling of rain water for use in landscape irrigation within Crystal Springs residential community

Resort living in New Jersey and caring for the environment don’t have to be at odds with one another. If caring for the environment and a quality lifestyle are both important to you, you’ll want to take a closer look at Crystal Springs Resort—and check out some of our additional green initiatives.
